A helping hand for local causes

Doing Good Together Fund

We’re a different kind of business because we’re owned by you, our members. Every time you spend with us, you earn points that fund good causes and help local communities.

With people and communities at the heart of Your Co-op, supporting local good causes chosen by our members is what this fund is all about – if it’s important to you then it’s important to us too.

Our Doing Good Together Fund provides small grants to community causes in need of support. From dinner and dance for dementia to plants for parks, or biscuits for book club to kits for cricket teams and more, our Doing Good Together Fund can help.

How it works

To be able to apply for a grant you need to:

  • Be a member of The Midcounties Co-operative, not a member yet. Join here.
  • As a member, spent and used your membership card at the time of the transaction with one of our businesses in the last 12 months.

Grants from the fund can be applied for at any time, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria and funds being available at the time of your application.

The length of time and supporting information required to process your grant application will depend on both the value you are applying for and if you are a community group, charity, or individual with applications taking between 7 days to 8 weeks to the grant being received.

As you go through the application process, we will let you know how things are progressing and when you will receive the grant.

Terms and conditions

Terms and conditions can be found here.

We cannot fund projects that:

  • Promote religious beliefs – but we will consider projects that are led by religious groups that demonstrate that it will benefit the wider community, not just that of a particular faith.
  • Support groups promoting or directly linked to a political party.
  • Support any organisation that is unlawful or involved in unlawful activities.

Starting your application - What you will need?

To complete your grant application, you will need to have some information to hand.  So, to help, outlined below is a guide to what you will be asked to provide as you go through the process depending on who the beneficiary of the grant will be.

Log in to your membership account – using either your registered email address or Midcounties Co-operative Membership card number and your password.  If you have not already added a password to your membership account, you will need to do so.

Need to order a replacement card – you can do that here.

If you are applying for a grant as a representative of a community group or registered charity, you will need to have the group's bank account details and a copy of a paying-in slip or statement that clearly shows the account name and number. During the application process, you will be required to upload a copy of the paying-in slip or statement, so make sure you have it ready.

If you are applying for a grant for a local good cause (community or charity group) that you are not involved with, please ensure that you can provide contact information, including email, telephone number, and address details for the nominated group. Unfortunately, without this information, your application cannot proceed.

If you are applying for a grant to support an individual’s cause – so not an established community group or charity then this cause will need to be supported by a Just Giving page, you will need to have this information to hand when you start your application.

In all cases, as the applicant, you will need to be able to describe the project or cause you are nominating. You should have an idea of the impact the cause or project aims to have and on whom or how many people.

Please note that depending on your answers you may need to fulfil additional criteria. You will be informed about this as you progress through the application.

What happens once my application has been submitted

Your grant application will be reviewed, and you will be advised when you can expect an outcome of your application.

You will be advised if your grant application has been successful or rejected.

If successful, we will then let you know when you can expect to receive the grant.

Based on the information you provided, we will then ask you to let us know how the grant made a difference.

Telling the story - locally

We want to celebrate the community groups, charities and individuals that are making a difference in people's lives in our communities.

To do this we will use the information you have provided about your group, project, or cause to share news of your grant, the activity it has supported, and the impact it has made, doing good together.

This will be communicated in various ways such as member communications, social media, local press, and in our sites.

Like us, we hope that you will want to share this great news with your community too and celebrate doing good together.
